No word over university cuts
KEELE University was today remaining tight-lipped about the outcome of a private meeting over proposals to make £6.5 million worth of cuts.
The university's senate met yesterday afternoon to discuss its financial difficulties and look at how to make savings over the next two years.
The university has not put a figure on how many staff jobs may be at risk. But a recent report by consultants claimed Keele has the equivalent of 108 full-time posts too many.
Other options include wiping out most of Keele's adult education provision, which is taught at community venues across Staffordshire and Cheshire.
The University and College Union, which represents lecturers, branded this move "highly regrettable".
The proposals, revealed in yesterday's Sentinel, come in the wake of Government funding cuts for higher education.
