BARGAIN retail store B&M is set to take over the former Woolworths store in Nantwich.

The national discount chain is poised to move into the Swine Market shop as soon as a deal is finalised.

Last week, The Sentinel revealed B&M would take over Woolworths in High Street, Congleton.

Former Woolworths staff at the Nantwich store are believed to have applied for a number of positions at B&M.

B&M was formed in 1976 and offers a range of discounted goods, from toys and household items to food and drink, gardening equipment and home furnishings.

It has 89 stores nationwide, including Hanley and Burslem.

A spokesman for B&M said: "We are currently in dealings with the liquidators regarding a number of sites and Nantwich is one of the stores we are interested in."

Administrator Deloitte said it was unable to comment on individual stores.

John Dunning, chief executive of South Chamber of Commerce, said: "We're very pleased that the former Woolworths store in Nantwich has been let so quickly.

"We don't want to see empty shops in the High Street because it isn't good for trade."
