PARISHIONERS are to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their church being built.

Bishop Bright, at the time based in Tunstall, laid the foundation stone of St Wulstan's Catholic Church in Wolstanton on June 6, 1959.

To commemorate the event, Bishop David McGough, who hails from Tunstall, will be chief celebrant of the anniversary Mass at 6pm on Saturday, June 6.

Later in the year, on Wednesday, October 7, there will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first Mass in the building. As well as looking back at their recent history, parishioners are reflecting on the example set by their patron, St Wulstan, Bishop of Worcester.

He lived in the 11th century and was renowned as a carer of the poor and freer of slaves.
