MUSIC: Live bands, local theatre groups, and schoolchildren take over the city centre today in the first ever Piccadilly Circus arts festival. Taking place in Piccadilly, Hanley, from noon other attractions at the free event will include a beer tent and hog roast, street salsa, magic, and face-painting. Stage performances begin at midday with the first band on the bill due to play at 4pm.

EXHIBITION: Everyday Objects, on display at the Borough Museum and Art Gallery in Brampton Park, Newcastle, from today until Sunday, September 27 takes a nostalgic look at how technology has transformed our everyday household items from the 1900s to modern day. CINEMA: State Of Play (12A) is a political conspiracy thriller adapted from the BBC drama by Kevin Macdonald, the director of Touching The Void and The Last King Of Scotland, in which Russell Crowe plays the reporter under pressure from his editor (Helen Mirren) to risk his life in search of a potential scandal involving a congressman. MUSIC: The Shallow Call will be playing at The Box in Crewe tonight with support from The Varlets and The Retrospective. Brought together by a love of The Smiths, Clash, Love, and Phil Spector the band has shared stages with The Enemy, Reverend And The Makers and The Paddingtons. Doors open 8pm. Entry is £5.
