It comes after the group marked its 100th anniversary last year.

And organisers have decided to stage a showcase of extracts from some of their favourite musicals of recent years.

The four-in-one event features songs from Oklahoma, Anything Goes, Mack & Mabel and My Fair Lady.

Society chairman Jonathan Fernyhough says: "There are a lot of shows out there to see at the moment and we thought how good it would be if we could present extracts from four great ones for the price of one."

Jonathan explains that audience members will be able to enjoy a flavour of each musical thanks to some extracts of dialogue between each song.

"Instead of producing a normal concert where a host would introduce each song, we thought we would include short extracts of dialogue too," he continues.

"This way, even if someone came from Mars to see the concert, they would understand what each show was about."

The Players have even asked former cast members to make a return to the stage.

"We have also asked back the performers who played the parts originally, so there will be a real sense of individual shows from some of Staffordshire's leading performers," he says.

The society's resident musical director, Susan Talbot, is taking charge of the conductor's baton, while dance routines have been devised by choreographer Dawn Bailey.

The Porthill Players presents The Story Continues at the Victoria Hall in Hanley tomorrow at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 from the box office on 01782 635500.
