"He turned down big money abroad because he wants to play in England.
"He wants to come to Crewe and I've made that quite clear to his representatives on several occasions.
"If we can do something, then we will."
Harry Davis played in central midfield in a 3-0 pre-season friendly win over Nantwich Town on Saturday.
Luke Murphy (knee) is expected to be back to full fitness next week, but Davis Senior, pictured, believes his absence is a reminder about needing more strength in depth.
He said: "It's a priority to bring in that extra central midfielder. We need a bit of cover in that area and Ollie Turton is still finding his feet.
"We need that third option if we are going to play with a three or to provide more competition.
"I want there to be competition for every position and we are not there with central midfield at the moment."
A LATE Mathias Pogba goal rescued a draw for Crewe at Leek Town on Friday.
The forward, who signed from Wrexham earlier this summer, scored his third goal in three pre-season outings to cancel out an early goal from Mark Ruddock.
Ruddock launched himself on to a third-minute corner from Tim Sanders, who had made a cameo appearance for Crewe against Chasetown last Monday.
Pogba made it 1-1 with a volley after a cross from substitute Gregor Robertson.
