Councillors throw out plans for 'death risk' wind turbine
PLANS to put up a wind turbine in an area of outstanding beauty have been rejected.
Opponents claimed the proposed site at Marshes Hill, Brown Edge, was common land. The application by Heritage Energy Ltd sparked opposition from the parish council and five residents.
The application was defeated seven votes to six on the casting vote of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council planning committee chairman Paul Roberts.
Councillor Mike Worthington said he was concerned that the 15 metre (49ft) turbine was too close to a public footpath and posed a health and safety risk. He said: "I would not want someone's death on my hands.

"It will also involve a loss of trees. The parish council has objected very strongly to this application."
But councillor John Fisher said the council should help provide alternative energy sources. He said: "In the West Midlands we have not grasped this issue. We are not harnessing wind in the interests of the nation.
"It is a spurious argument about the turbine toppling.
"Unless we have a hurricane that is unlikely to happen."

“I wish people would stop wasting money on these silly wind turbines. To make any sort of contribution to the country's energy needs, they have to be huge and numerous, dont they. Gas and Nuclear are the only way to generate enough power to keep the country even ticking over. Wind Turbines are paying 'lip service' to the green lobby and have no real use other than keeping those sort of people quiet. Unfortunately, these huge nuclear, gas and oil burning power stations are going to have to get a whole lot more numerous just to keep up with the UK's pupulation explosion we've seen over the last 10 years. Stop importing people, you numb skulls.”

“I do not think you should take the Sentinel word for word the main reason was it was a place of outstanding beauty and Common Land again there are better locations to stick them.”

“A poor reason given for refusal "It is a spurious argument about the turbine toppling" !
The companies who erect the turbines are not botch-it and run merchants, and would have installed similar in a more harsh terrain. I hope the decision goes to appeal and it gets overturned and that SMDC are also pursued for the dispraise of reputation of the installation company.”

“I agree the West Mids have not grasped the issue people still attempt to stick them at locations that are not suitable.”
