09:20 - 10-November-2009

ASPIRING film-makers from Staffordshire University have scooped a prize at the regional final of the Royal Television Society awards.

Five movies produced and directed by students and graduates from the film production technology course and the media (film) production course were nominated for awards at the event.

And top prize in the fiction category went to a quartet of the Stafford-based students for their film Olivia.

The film-makers were Matt Holmes, Alistair Little, Oliver Truswell and Stuart Hackshaw.

And Fiona Graham, senior lecturer, said: "This win is something the students can take away and credit with the start of their professional careers in film and television production."

The regional awards event took place in Birmingham and representatives from BBC, ITV, Channel Four and Screen West Midlands were among those in the audience.

The winning team from Staffordshire University will now go through to the national final in London next year.
