Windsurfing: Martin flies the flag for UK
The 14-year-old, from Cheadle, finished fourth at the 2010 Bic Techno European Championships in Cadiz.
The result means the United Kingdom now have a berth in the Youth Olympics windsurfing competition.
The four top-placed countries in the European Championships qualify for a place at the games, and with France finishing in first, second and third, it was left to Martin from the United Kingdom and competitors from Israel and Russia to grab the other three spots.
However, Martin himself still has to qualify for the place by proving he is the best young windsurfer in the country at two qualifying races in Folkestone and Weymouth in May.
He said: "I'm in contention for the spot and now I've got to make sure it is me who qualifies.
"It may seem a bit harsh that I've made sure Great Britain will be represented at the games but have to qualify separately, but that's the way it goes.
"Even though there is a lot of pressure considering it's just one spot, it costs a lot of money to go so you can understand why more can't go. I'll just keep working hard and do my best in the events later this year.
"I'd say there were three or four other windsurfers who stand a chance of the place, so I know it'll be tough."
More than 3,500 young athletes from across the globe will converge on Singapore for the first ever Youth Olympic Games, which are due to take place from August 14 to August 26 this year.
Duncan Truswell, Youth racing manager for the Royal Yachting Association, said: "We are really pleased to have secured our first place at the Youth Olympic Games, especially as we qualified ahead of a number of nations who traditionally have very strong young windsurfers.
"The Youth Olympic Games is a completely new event so we are not quite sure exactly what to expect from it, but what we do know is it is certainly going to be a high-profile event with the world's best young athletes competing."
Martin's latest success comes hot on the heels of a memorable 2009 season.
Just last month, he rounded off his campaign by winning the British Youth Masters title.
The talented youngster already holds the European and World crowns for his age group.
This year, Martin will be pitting his wits against sailors two years older than him after moving up to the under-17s age group due to his fast development.
"It was a great year last year," added Martin. "Hopefully this year can be just as good, if not better, especially if I qualify for Singapore."
