Villa couldn't give a XXX about form

VILLA came into this game on a four-match losing streak, but threw the formbook out of the window as they comprehensively disposed of leaders Pilkington, writes Bill Shaw .

They had to do so from behind, though, as the visitors went ahead on 23 minutes, Kevin Brookes flicking on a cross and Brett Skinner pushing the ball beyond Pelsall keeper Russell Todd.

However, Villa were soon level as Littler crossed from the left, Griffiths flicked the ball on and Andrew Bentley hammered it home from 20 yards.

The second half started with a bang, as Simpson intercepted a ball in midfield and put Rencher clear to beat Harling.

Pilks replied almost straight away with Andrew Johnson's shot forcing a great save from Todd, but it was soon 3-1 to Villa as a Littler free kick was flicked on and Griffiths scored.

They wrapped up the points on 83 minutes as Griffiths and Rencher combined to set up Bentley to score with a vicious cross-shot.
