Sunday football: Wolstanton hit Biddulph for six

WOLSTANTON Cavaliers kept up the pressure on at the top of the Premier Division after a 6-1 thumping of mid-table Biddulph Moor Wanderers.

Doubles from Paul Lovatt, Peter Ford and Jamie Kempson helped Wolstanton secure an easy three points.

Gardeners Arms' inconsistent season continued after their 2-2 draw at home to Robin Hood.

Luke Mottershead and David Williams were on target for the Gardeners.

Miners Arms picked up maximum points against Old Corner Cupboard with a following their 4-2 win.

In Division One's only game of the day, Trent Tavern moved into second place in the table after thumping Masons Arms 8-1, with James Robinson and Chris Newman among the scorers.

In Division Two, Hazelhurst were left heartbroken after a last-gasp Mow Cop Athletic goal denied them the chance of maximum points in an amazing 5-5 draw.

Gardeners Rest's impressive start to the season continued with a 4-0 win against Hollybush Bentilee – with Adam Finney scoring a brace.

In Division Three, New Penny were denied the chance of extending their lead at the top after their 0-0 draw against mid-table Ye Olde Smithy.

Village Town capitalised on New Penny's failure to win to move top, following their 4-2 win against Travellers Rest.

AFC Clayton and Bird in Hand remain among the chasing pack after sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.

The two Crowns – Mow Cop and Red Street – were involved in a thrilling 5-5 draw.

Red Street's Mark Jones was in fine form, scoring four of his side's goals.

Loggerheads were 3-0 up at the break at Biddulph FC, but a second-half collapse saw the home side fight back to win 4-3.

Village Tavern and Hollybush Vics shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

In Division Four, Polonia's fine start to the season continued at the top with a 3-0 win at Silver Birch.

In cup action, Dresden Park Rangers edged out Cobridge Community in a ding-dong 4-3 win in the Premier Division Cup first round.

In Division One Cup action, Kidsgrove CRFC progressed to the next stage with a 2-1 win against Gillow Heath.

Red Lion Chesterton eventually made the next stage after a 13-12 penalty shoot-out victory. The game headed for the dreaded spot-kicks after finishing 4-4 after extra-time.

White Horse are also in the next round, after beating Silverdale Athletic 3-0.

Milton FC made easy work of their clash against Gardeners Rest in an 8-1 mauling.

In the Division Two Cup, Weathervane will be in the hat for the next round after their 4-3 win at home to Brown Edge.

Ye Olde Manor Inn are also through after their 4-2 victory over Northwood Inn.

Talisman, who have lost their opening six league games, picked up their first taste of success of the season with a 3-1 win against Madeley WS to reach the next stage.
