Stoke City: Fans' views

STOKE fan TERRY HUGHES, from Newcastle, is hoping to see City out of the relegation zone by Sunday evening.

He said: "This is an opportunity to get three points in the bag.

"Two of our next three games are at home, so this gives us chance to put some distance between ourselves and the bottom of the Premier League.

"I just hope Ricardo Fuller has returned fit from international duty because he is our jewel in the crown going forward.

"Hopefully, Abdoulaye Faye will also make it. I've been really impressed with him since Tony Pulis signed him.

"We really need our strongest side out. Tottenham are low on confidence, but I hope we don't shoot ourselves in the foot and give them the opportunity to get their confidence back."

Meir-Park Stokie SUE BRYAN is also keeping her fingers crossed, but would like to see a more attacking approach from her team to halt a run of five defeats in seven games.

She said: "I'm hoping for a win because Spurs are lower in the table than us ... and there aren't many we can say that about.

"Maybe it's just the crowd of fans that I talk to, but confidence is low among us because we seem to be being outwitted by other Premier League teams.

"I'm a fan of Tony Pulis and I think he is a brilliant manager. But I don't think the style we have been playing is going to work in the Premier League.

"For example, Dave Kitson seems to be playing out of position. He's getting some criticism and I think that's unfair because he is covering every blade of grass for the team.

"I'd like to see him pushed further forward and see us go for it more."

STOKE-BASED Spurs fan MATT JENNINGS is fearing a week from hell if his team loses.

He said: "If that happens, I'll get stick from every quarter.

"I'm not very confident...but I am thinking that we've got to win eventually.

"We were terrible at the start of the season, but have improved in the last couple.

"Even though we lost our last game, against Hull, we are on the verge of giving someone a good hiding.

"I'm expecting Stoke to keep lumping it into the box, so I just hope our central defenders have prepared themselves for being battered by Stoke's big strikers.

"Also, Dave Kitson always scores against us."

Meanwhile, lifelong Tottenham fan JIMMY STONE fears the "soft underbelly" of his favourites could be to Stoke's liking.

Jimmy said: "Stoke have got a lot of guts in their team and what worries me is there is nowhere near enough of that commodity in ours.

"We've got all these technically gifted players in midfield, but we have no-one who is going to put their foot in.

"The last time Spurs had a player like that was Graham Roberts and before him the great Dave Mackay.

"We are not capable of keeping a clean sheet either. Stoke are big, strong and very physical and it's going to be a tough afternoon."

Jimmy is also very critical of the summer sales of Dimitar Berbatov (Man United), Robbie Keane (Liverpool) and Jermain Defoe (Portsmouth).

He added: "They were three cracking players and now we've ended up with Darren Bent, who hardly got a kick last season, as our first-choice striker.

"It's too early to judge Roman Pavlyuchenko, but he's out injured anyway. Whichever way you look at it, we aren't in very good shape.

"The only positive we can take is that Stoke have looked shaky in defence. The best I think we can hope for is a 2-2 draw."
