Port Vale: Fans have their say on the FA Cup defeat by Huddersfield

WE always go out of the FA Cup at this time of the year, but our exit this time was particular disappointing.

After triumphing against Huddersfield in the 'game of the decade' last season, I was perhaps deluded in expecting a similar result this time round.

I'd like to think that if Marc Richards's early chance had been converted, the result would have been different, but in reality we weren't good enough to win.

The effort is there with most of the team, but we are lacking a quality creative midfielder. Unfortunately, this sort of player comes at a price Vale can't afford.

I thought the substitutions were in the wrong order and that Louis Dodds should have been on earlier. That said, we didn't look capable of scoring.

RICHARD MURPHY, Brown Edge

I THOUGHT the effort was there, but we lacked a cutting edge.

I didn't think Huddersfield played any better than us. We had enough opportunities to get the ball into the box, but we couldn't deliver that final ball.

They were rapid going forward with the likes of Lee Novak and Lionel Ainsworth providing pace in abundance.

But while they created a few chances early doors, we largely restricted them to long-range efforts.

I think we have performed quite well in our two cup campaigns, but we must now look towards making strides in League Two.

I don't think we can make the play-offs because Micky Adams is still lumbered with too many players from previous regimes.

However, if we finish in the top half that still represents a good campaign for us, then we can go for promotion next season when Adams will hopefully be able to bring his own players in.

THE outcome of this tie was decided in the opening 15 minutes. Marc Richards missed the target when it looked easier to score. Moments later Huddersfield took advantage of some sloppy defending to put us out of the competition at the second round stage for the fourth successive year.

None of the Vale players could be faulted for their effort, and Lewis Haldane deserves particular mention for his man-of-the-match performance.

Unfortunately we still continue to create very few goal-scoring opportunities.

Huddersfield are undoubtedly a decent League One outfit, but at times our play was indicative of our performances this season.
