Pool: Crewe players eye world title glory

CREWE's Lyndsey Roberts and Lorraine Fivey have a shot at World Pool Championship glory.

The pair, who play for Dishers Pool and Snooker Club, start their bids on Sunday, June 28, at Blackpool's Imperial Hotel.

Roberts, aged 25, is contesting the singles event, but is also part of the England side to play in the team event. She was knocked out in the last 32 of the singles competition last year by eventual winner Lynette Horsborough.

Fivey, aged 27, is making her debut in the singles event after coming through the qualifying rounds in Cambridge.

GREEN Baize moved to the top of ALSAGER POOL LEAGUE Division One after Dishers B lost at Kidsgrove Labour.

Green Baize and Kidsgrove Labour both won 7-2, which dropped Dishers B to third in the table.

Radway A continued their good form as they recovered from 3-0 and 4-2 down to beat Players A 5-4. Their victory was achieved thanks to a superb clearance from Dave Paton and an eight-ball finish in the deciding frame from Adrian Askey.

Dishers A remain in contention following their 6-3 win against Skylark A.

In Division Two, New Horseshoe moved joint-top following 7-2 and 6-3 wins this week. Woodlands are keeping pace following a 7-2 victory over Royal Oak, who are now 11 points adrift. Globe were beaten 5-4 by Red Lion.

The top four all recorded wins in Division Three.

Swan and Kids WMC A accounted for Nags Head and Castle 6-3, while Cricketers were also knocked for six at Queens Head B. Britannia beat Linley by the odd frame.

Kings Arms made it a magnificent dozen in Division Four, but were made to fight all the way at Fegg Hayes, enabling Crompos to edge a point closer following their 6-3 win at Kidsgrove WMC B. Lodge beat Radway Ladies 6-3 to move third and Queens Head A came away from Skylark B 5-4 winners.

FOX and Duck have been crowned JUST POWER PLUS WEDNESDAY NIGHT POOL LEAGUE Division One champions after demolishing Park Inn B 9-0.

In Division Two, Green Baize had already secured top spot, but Crompo's C finished runners-up after edging out Cheshire Cheese. The presentation night will be held on Friday, August 7 at Crompo's in Tunstall.
