Non-league football: Tinson returns for Dabbers' FA Trophy test

NANTWICH Town could be boosted by the return of defensive rock Darren Tinson for their third-round tie at Eastwood Town.

Tinson was stretchered off in the early stages of the last round against Leek Town and needed 12 stitches in a leg wound.

But the stitches have been removed and Nantwich manager Peter Hall said: "If Darren trained in comfort last night, there is every chance he will play.

"I know he will want to. Darren does not like missing games and if we had 11 like him we would not lose a match."

The Dabbers will be without target man Matt Rhead, who is attending a wedding, but Hall said: "It might do us a favour.

"Eastwood have a big and strong back four, so having someone like Sam Madeley up front could give them problems because he is so pacy."

Having had Tuesday's UniBond Premier Division game at Kendal called off, Hall put his players through their paces last night.

He said: "We will need to get our passing game going in the last third and play down the side of them.

"Madeley can hurt them through the middle, but we have to make sure we take care of the ball in midfield.

"It is a big game for the players and the club. Not many of them will have reached this stage of the Trophy, but we will need to be relaxed.

Eastwood are second in Blue Square North, but Hall said: "We have nothing to fear and I fancy our chances."

Nantwich were angered by making a wasted journey to Kendal on Tuesday before the game was called off on their arrival.

The pitch was waterlogged and Hall claimed: "There was never a chance of the game being played and we never even got as much as a cup of tea or a sandwich. It was disgraceful."

The game has been rearranged for Wednesday, December 2.

STAFFORD RANGERS boss Chris Brindley seems certain to be without striker Ben Mills for his side's trip to Blyth Spartans.

The forward, snapped up from Leek Town in the summer, is in talks about a move to Alfreton Town.

And with fellow striker Nick Wellecomme nursing a back injury, Brindley admits Rangers face a tough test against their Blue Square North rivals.

Eugene Francis looks likely to make a rare start and there could be a place on the bench for new signing Patrick Samba, who started the season playing alongside former Stafford favourite Neil Grayson at UniBond South side Glapwell.

"This just highlights the difficult situation we are in," said Brindley. "There's a lot of money around at this level and we just can't compete with it.

"Ben arrived in the summer and we took a chance with him. He had a slow start, but has now shown his potential and will only get better. Now he has a chance to double his money and there is talk of a contract at Alfreton.

"You cannot blame the lad. That sort of job security is hard to find at the moment."

Samba impressed when playing for Stafford's reserves earlier this month. He has previously played in Holland and Finland.

He will be joined in the Rangers squad by young keeper Adam Whitehouse and defender Jermaine Johnson, who has agreed another month's loan from Championship side Derby County.
