Non-league football: Nantwich land home tie in FA Trophy

NANTWICH Town have been handed a home draw against Stalybridge Celtic or AFC Telford in the FA Trophy First Round Proper.

The two Blue Square North sides replay at Telford tonight, with the winners visiting the Weaver Stadium on December 12.

The tie should hold no fears for the Dabbers, who produced one of the results of the third round qualifying stage on Saturday when they won 3-0 at Eastwood, who are second in Blue Square North.

Manager Peter Hall said: "There are no easy ties at this stage, but to be at home is brilliant and we have a chance to progress."

Nantwich have already won £9,300 in prize money from the trophy in beating Retford, Leek Town and Eastwood Town.

Nantwich were due to play Matlock at home in the UniBond League Cup tonight, but the tie has been postponed as Matlock play Witton Albion in a FA Trophy replay.

ROCESTER manager Alan Beaman has told the club he wants to stand down.

Beaman said: "I have met David Price, the chairman, and told him the club needs to be looking for someone else to take over.

"There is no money and I cannot take Rocester any further. I won't leave the club in the lurch, but I am prepared to step down now."

The 59-year-old was persuaded to return to Hillsfield a year ago when they were in decline and did his job in saving the club from relegation from the Aspire Midland Alliance. They are currently 15th.

ALSAGER TOWN hope to unveil new striker Stuart Wellstead during tonight's home game against Ashton Athletic in the Vodkat Premier Division.

Wellstead, signed from Winsford, was prevented from making his debut on Saturday as he was involved in the rescue operation in the flooded Lake District.

Alsager lost 2-1 at Silsden and have lost their last eight games.

CONGLETON TOWN travel to Formby looking for at least a goal. The Bears have failed to find the net in their last five games, forcing the management to step up their search for a striker.
