Cricket: Moddershall A continue promotion march

MODDERSHALL A maintained their promotion march with a 56-run victory over Hem Heath Forsbrook.

The league leaders appeared to be in trouble at the halfway stage after being bowled out for 91.

Opening batsman Dave Stupples top-scored with 18, but excellent bowling from Simon Wood and Warren Aubrey threatened a shock.

Wood finished with 5-24 from 14.2 overs, while Aubrey ended with 4-24.

However, Moddershall A made light work of Hem Heath Forsbrook in the run chase, with Upul Indrasiri claiming exceptional figures of 6-11 from his 13 overs as they were bundled out for 33.

First-team bowler Shaun Brian also weighed in to take 3-15 to complete an easy victory.

Second-placed Bagnall suffered their fourth defeat of the season after a six-wicket defeat at Eccleshall.

Matthew Pepper (4-28) and Thomas Hibbert (3-10) helped to dismiss Bagnall for 103.

Opening batsman Martin Mason (23) and Ben Watkins (21) were the only two batsmen to make significant contributions to the Bagnall total.

Imran Khalid (3-38) then led the Bagnall fightback as he reduced Eccleshall to 24-4.

But Jamie Mansfield (49no) and Jack Boulton (34no) ensured their were no further alarms as Eccleshall earned the 20 points.

Third-placed Porthill Park A are now only nine points off the promotion places following a 74-run victory over Endon.

Greg Bailey (44), Mick Farr (35) and Ben Cotton (25) were the mainstays of Porthill Park A's 163 all out.

But their progress was checked by Michael Dawson (4-50), Ben Briggs (3-16) and Mark Austin (3-34).

However, the Porthill Park A bowlers then turned in a fine performance to dismiss Endon for 89, despite the best efforts of Phil Rowley (23).

Chris Matthews led the way with 3-10, while Sohail Zaroof (2-14), Andy Viggars (2-21) and Adam Ralphs (2-25) all provided good support.

Oakamoor eased to a 109-run victory over Woore, who are still in danger of relegation.

Oakamoor declared on 175-9, in which Muhammed Ayub top-scored with 72, off 87 balls.

He shared a 137-run partnership for the third wicket with Dan Knight, who hit six fours in his 58.

Woore battled back with the ball and Jonty Bailey was rewarded for his efforts with 4-38 from 17 overs.

Woore's batsmen had a run chase to forget as they were reduced to 34-8. Alex Saunders (23) and Rob Boyes (18) reached double figures in the lower order, but they were eventually dismissed for 66.

Edward Brookes claimed 3-7 from 10 overs, while Matt Wolff (2-3) and Steve Gilbert (2-22) also impressed.

Richie Jervis and Adrian Lello claimed four wickets each to help Wedgwood Stanfields to a 22-run win against Meir Heath Fenton.

Jervis finished with 4-31, and Lello claimed 4-42 to skittle Meir Heath Fenton for 152 as they chased Wedgwood Stanfields' 174-8 declared.

Opener Paul Farmer top-scored for Meir Heath Fenton with 38, but from 113-4 they suffered a collapse.

Gareth Lello had earlier made an unbeaten 68 to help Wedgwood Stanfields to their declaration.

Norton in Hales are still propping up the table, 28 points behind Woore, as they suffered an 81-run defeat to mid-table Hanford.

Simon Ellwell took 5-38 as Hanford were bowled out for 158.

Roger Davis batted through the innings for 60 and, along with Chris Machin (47), they launched a recovery from 62-6.

Mike Coxon then took 4-50 after tea to dismiss Norton in Hales for 77.

Machin and Andrew Pickerill shared the other wickets to fall.
