Emma Bailey, colour technician at Francesco Group, Ironmarket, Newcastle, says: "Janet's hair looked too dark and wasn't doing anything for her.

"We began with a cleanse shampoo, which lifts the colour a shade, because it has a tiny bit of bleach in it. I then did a partial head of foils, using two different tones of honey blonde, which I scattered through the top area, and I also did an all-over colour in a dark warm blonde."

Melanie Bednarski, senior stylist at Francesco, says: "Her hair was quite short already and she was wearing it blow-dried off the face when she came in.

"I tidied up the back and sides first, softening the sides so she could wear it more onto her face. I then took a bit of length off the top and texturised it.

"I blow-dried using a small round brush to give some lift, drying the hair onto her face, coming forward with the fringe.

"The products I used were from the Sebastian range: Texturizer, Microweb Fiber and Zero Gravity Hairspray.

"Janet's hair looked really nice and she was very pleased. It softened her features because it was a bit too harsh before."

COST: The cleanse shampoo would have cost £15, the cut would have been £38, the partial head of foils would have cost £23 and the all-over colour would have been £36, total £112.

The make-up

Maxine Davenport, No7 consultant at Boots, High Street, Newcastle, says: "For quickness, I started with the four-in-one wipes, which cleanse and tone.

"I then used the Protect and Perfect Intense Serum, followed by the Protect and Perfect Day Cream.

"Next, I used a tinted moisturiser in medium and Crème Touch Powder in candlelight.

"I also used Starfish Bronzer and, for the eyes, I used the Stay Perfect Trio in good earth, followed by Extreme Lash Mascara in black and the Amazing Eye Pencil in brown.

"I finished with a nude lip liner and Stay Perfect Lipstick, also in nude.

"I'd describe this as a day look and Janet looked absolutely stunning."

COST: Makeovers and consultations are free at the No7 counter in Boots, Newcastle.

The clothes

Jayne Cartlidge, sales adviser at Dorothy Perkins, in the Roebuck Shopping Centre, Newcastle, says: "Janet wanted a casual look, so we chose a top from our new Union City Blues collection for £25 in white with red and blue flowers.

"We teamed that with a pair of dark bootcut jeans for £25, a pair of Daisy shoes in red from the Saxone collection for £30 and a red and silver beaded bracelet from the DCK range for £9.

"Janet looked lovely and was pleased with the look."

The verdict

Janet says: "I enjoyed the day immensely. It was wonderful. My hair is beautiful – the colour and the style. I'm really pleased.

"And the make-up was just as nice, while the outfit was wonderful too."
