THEATRE: Thomas Hardy's Bathsheba Everdene is brought to life in a new production of his classic novel, Far From The Madding Crowd. Theresa Heskins's new adaptation of the novel continues at the New Vic Theatre in Basford tonight. The play tells the story of the wild, willful and fiercely independent Bathsheba, who finds herself having to choose between the competing attentions of three very different men. CONCERT: The Keele Chapel Singers present a summer evening of folk songs and spirituals on Saturday. The concert is at Keele University Chapel at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7 (£5 concessions). Admission is by tickets at the door and net proceeds will go to The Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust.

THEATRE: Louise Roche's Girls' Night continues at The Regent theatre tonight. Starring real-life sisters Kim and Gillian Taylforth (ex-EastEnders), it's a night of fun, laughter and karaoke. Call the box office on 0844 871 7627 for tickets.

EXHIBITION: Artist and former miner Jim Matthew Fallon presents a display of work in an exhibition entitled, Pictures Of Local Industrial Interest From Former Days. It runs until Saturday at Newcastle Library. Call 01782 297300 for details.
