Regulars at The Skylark in Talke Pits, The Power's rival Andy Hamilton's pub, gathered to cheer on the champion.

Charlie Leeson, aged 48, of Talke Pits, said: "It's good to see someone from Stoke doing so well. He's focused and got off to a good start – all he had to do was keep his concentration up.

"He's at the top of his game and will be there for a long time yet."

Nicholas Jones, aged 21, of Kidsgrove, said: "He can't be beaten, he's the best in the world and a great ambassador for Stoke.

"He always gives good entertainment."

Martin Simm, aged 51, of Talke Pits, said: "He's trying to make a world title so unbeatable, no-one else can ever touch him. There's no-one to match him at the moment."
