MUSIC: Piccadilly Circus will be the first music, arts and beer festival of its kind in the city centre when it takes place this Saturday in Hanley. There will be stage performances from local schools and amateur dramatics societies throughout the afternoon at this family-oriented event between noon and 4pm in Piccadilly, Hanley. From 4pm onwards, a number of bands are set to play, among them The Control, The Black Apples, Cock's Entry and The Decision. Other attractions include the beer tent, hog roast, face-painting and street salsa. Admission is free and no ticket is required.

MUSIC: Trumpeter Simon Bate, violinist Laura Johnson, and mezzo-soprano Ruth Shannon will be appearing from 12.30pm today at St Mary's Church in Nantwich. The event is part of a lunchtime concert series that is running weekly on Thursdays throughout July and August. Admission is free.

MUSIC: Limehouse Lizzy will be playing at The Queens in Basford on Saturday. Doors open 8.30pm. Tickets cost £10 in advance, or £12 on the door. For further information about this and other forthcoming gigs, call 01782 616180.

THEATRE: Bryony Lavery's stage adaptation of Magdalen King-Hall's exhilarating adventure The Wicked Lady, pictured, makes its world première at the New Vic Theatre in Basford tomorrow night. Runs until Saturday, July 25. For tickets, call the box office on 01782 717962.

MUSIC: The Marchington Singers will be performing at Thomas Alleyne's High School in Uttoxeter on Saturday night, with a concert to celebrate their silver anniversary. Well-known pieces by Oscar Hammerstein, Jerome Kern, Benjamin Britten, and John Rutter will be on the programme, as well as some classic Abba hits. It starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced £12, are available on the door, or by calling 01889 563570.
