Let's Talke – and no Butts

Thursday, December 31, 2009, 09:20

CAMPAIGNERS are continuing to fight to have their village recognised by Royal Mail.

People who live in Butt Lane currently have to write their address as Talke so postal workers know where to send it.

But residents say this irritates them and causes confusion for visitors.

An online petition has been set up to force Royal Mail to change the address.

The campaign was started by Butt Lane's Liberal Democrat councillors Dennis Richards and Silvia Burgess.

Mr Richards said: "We are still collecting signatures and carrying out more canvassing.

"We are hoping to get the issue placed on the agenda for January's Kidsgrove Town Council meeting and then we can take the matter forward."

Royal Mail calls the Talke line on Butt Lane addresses the 'locality' and has a code of practice for locality changes.

Changes can be made subject to a number of conditions, which include the submission of a clearly defined set of geographical boundary data.

Royal Mail must also complete a survey of those affected by any change.
