The Sentinel

I READ in Tuesday's Sentinel the article written by Martin Tideswell.

He was writing about how much our council is costing us in paying off our beloved council officials for their failure to do their jobs properly.

Martin was spot on.

Then I see in Wednesday's Sentinel how much it is costing us to pay seven executives of our council.

The amount is a staggering £100,000 in salary, allowances, and pension contributions.

The excuse is our council pays these salaries in order to attract high calibre candidates to fill the crucial executive roles.

Then it goes on to explain the individual amounts paid to our councillors.

If these amounts are being paid to attract the right calibre of person, then why is it that we have not got any?

The Sentinel published a letter of mine some years ago, about all these new cuts that were starting due to the recession.

I said then that our councillors would blame the recession for all the mess we were in but we were suffering long before that due to the total neglect of our city.

I was born just after the war when this city was in a mess.

But believe me it's in a far worse condition now due to a total lack of investment in the future.

We don't need stupid names for Hanley, or another bus station that is not big enough to park the buses in it.

We all had the opportunity the last time we voted to get rid of this rubbish pretending to be helping us, and we failed.

That was because everyone had had enough, and could not be bothered to vote, so the minority voted this lot back in yet again.

To the good people of Stoke-on-Trent – you only reap what you sow.
