Olympics: Dennison misses out on pole vault final

Pole vaulter Kate Dennison failed to reach the final despite a personal best of 4.40m.

Dennison failed with all three attempts at 4.50m to miss out on the final, and admitted she suffered from entering the competition at the opening height of 4.00m

"It was an outdoor PB which was nice but jumping from the start of the competition right to the end I think I just burnt myself out," said Dennison, who saw world record holder Elena Isinbaeva need just one attempt at 4.60m to qualify automatically.

"I wasn't jumping technically well, I was just fighting and fighting," added Dennison. "It was so hot out there and we were out there for a good three hours but I'm fairly happy. You can't be too disheartened with top 15 in the Olympics compared to jumping 4.20 in Osaka last year.

"It would have been nice to make that final but give me another year and I'll be up there."
