Don't forget home MOT
That's the message from The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB's) annual week, which runs from November 21.
Such jobs are often put off because many homeowners don't know how to tackle the job, but SPAB is able to offer information and support.
Marianne Suhr, presenter of the BBC TV series Restoration and SPAB's education officer, said: "Many homeowners are daunted by maintenance and lack the confidence or knowledge to get to grips with it. National Maintenance Week is designed to provide encouragement along with straightforward information.
"Your home is your most valuable asset. If you don't need to sell your property at the moment, but want to ensure that it keeps its optimum value, one of the best steps you can take is to make sure it is well maintained. If you are selling, a house that has been cared for is going to be a more attractive prospect."
Relevant to properties of all ages, not just ancient ones, the annual campaign is designed to introduce people to the simple maintenance steps they can take to stave off costly major faults and damage at a later date.
The campaign's website has tips, including a 10-minute home MOT checklist.
