Port Vale: Taylor left fearing Vale axe as Haldane returns
The 25-year-old winger made his first start at the Pirelli Stadium since being sent off during Vale's 2-1 victory at Grimsby on December 28.
But manager Micky Adams has threatened to make changes to his team to face Chesterfield, and with fellow winger Lewis Haldane returning from suspension tonight, Taylor could be the man to make way.
"It's been tough since I got sent off," said Taylor, who had managed just two substitute appearances since the Grimsby Town clash before last Saturday.
"Games have been postponed and, to be fair, the lads have been drawing, winning and putting a run together.
"Obviously I haven't been able to get back into the team, but unfortunately for Lewis the same thing has happened to him in being sent off and serving a one-match ban.
"So it's up to the gaffer now to decide who he wants to put on the wings tonight.
"I hope I did enough on Saturday to show him I want to keep my shirt and stay in that starting 11."
Haldane was banned for Saturday's match after being sent off in the 2-0 home win over Hereford United on January 30, but looks good value for a recall.
Taylor was often a peripheral figure at Burton as Vale struggled to find any width.
"I felt okay, but it was one of those games in which the ball didn't get down or go out wide very much, so I didn't get as much possession as I would have liked," added Taylor.
"I was a bit frustrated, but I was happy to be back on the pitch.
"Any player will tell you it takes three or four games to get that match sharpness back after a long break, but I've done a lot of running with the lads when the games were postponed.
"It's just a case of playing those three or four games in a row, if selected, to get that sharpness back."
POSITIVE: Rob Taylor hopes to keep his place on the wing after coming back from suspension in the defeat at Burton.
