Port Vale: Glover vows to fight for future

TRANSFER-LISTED striker Danny Glover has refused to throw in the towel on his Port Vale career as he strives to secure his professional future.

The 20-year-old was placed on the transfer list by boss Micky Adams before the start of the campaign and has not appeared for Vale's first-team this season.

But Glover is confident he can still forge a career as a professional.

Glover said: "I'm just trying to play games at the moment. If that's at Port Vale, that's good for me, but if I have to move on and my career lies elsewhere, then so be it.

"I need to play for my future by getting my head down and carrying on working hard. I don't think the door is closed in terms of never playing for Vale again.

"I've got to train well and play well for the reserves and see what comes out of it. If I get my chance, hopefully I can take it."

Glover, who played in Monday's second-string 2-2 home draw with West Brom, recently returned from a one-month loan spell at Blue Square Premier outfit Salisbury City. He won't rule out another loan move, but also sees the benefits of remaining in Burslem and trying to impress Adams on the training ground.

Glover graduated through the club's youth ranks and has scored four goals in 42 senior appearances.

He has also been boosted by watching fellow transfer-listed players Luke Prosser and Dave Howland fight their way back into first-team contention recently.

Last season Glover was barracked by a minority of fans as dad Dean desperately tried to cling on to the manager's job before leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

But Glover Junior refuses to blame his current predicament on his dad's exit.

"Whether my dad was at the club or not I knew, and the team knew, that I was only ever going to be in the team if I was playing well," said the young striker. "I was never going to be picked just because my dad was there.

"Last season was harder in terms of the off-field problems. This season I've taken a back-seat, so there's not as much pressure."
