Nostalgia Letter: Poor nursed new mothers
Saturday, July 04, 2009, 09:20
The City General Hospital, as John mentioned, was formerly known as the London Road Hospital. I was born there on December 26, 1928.
My mother told me there was a private maternity ward and women in the workhouse helped look after new mothers. My mother was in for two weeks and it cost £10. I think the workhouse building is still there.
