DRUNKEN thief Martin Massey was caught pushing stolen scrap metal down a high street in a shopping trolley.

The rattling from the haul, valued at £600, woke a resident in High Street, Talke Pits, who alerted police at 3am.

Massey, aged 20, of King Street, Fenton, then gave police his twin brother's name.

He admitted theft and perverting the course of justice.

Judge Granville Styler gave Massey a three month sentence, suspended for 12 months, with supervision and 200 hours' unpaid work.
