How can we put the newts first?
I COULD hardly believe my eyes when I saw the story on March 5 about the newts! Has the world finally gone mad?
When councils are closing down swimming pools and care homes, and cutting staff to the bone, causing untold hardship for decent people who used to work for them, and throwing them on the scrapheap, why should newts be costing us 200,000?
It is absolutely unbelievable that newts should come before services and the people, yes, the people of this region.
The Wildlife Trust and all the other politically-correct people of in this area should hang their heads in shame and to the leaders of this council I say: 'Put people first'.
