We must carry on Lilian's great work at the reserve

LIKE many other Staffordshire Wildlife Trust members in the Potteries and Newcastle, I was saddened to hear of the death of Lilian Allender, pictured.

Her work as a volunteer in Whitfield Valley and Ford Green Nature Reserve has been an inspiration to everyone who met her. She could talk to people of all ages and at all levels.

Her boundless knowledge and enthusiasm meant that children grew up appreciating the nature on their doorstep in the middle of a city.

We shall miss her greatly, and it's now up to all of us to make sure that Whitfield Valley, with its Ford Green reedbeds, are looked after as a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. PAT CALLAGHAN Hon Secretary, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Stafford
