Upbeat lessons about playing the blues

Saturday, October 25, 2008, 11:00

TWO Potteries schools will be appearing on the Teachers TV channel tonight to show how they have links with parents.

Staff from Holden Lane High, in Sneyd Green, star in the programme and there is also input from James Brindley Science College, Chell.

Holden Lane hit the headlines earlier this year when it staged parents' meetings in a pub and a workingmen's club. The 'power to the parents' events were about getting feedback from parents on how to improve school reports and other aspects of school life.

Now the documentary 'School Matters – Communicating With Parents' follows the school's other efforts to involve families in their children's education.

Holden Lane staff also visit James Brindley to see how family learning sessions have had an impact. Parents and pupils at the Chell school have even formed their own blues band.

The programme airs on Teachers TV at 8pm today and is repeated tomorrow at 4pm.
