Smaller shop would have cared more

THEY DON'T CARE: I sympathise with Mrs Bradbury who complained that Tesco were unhelpful when her mother had her purse stolen in their store.

They could have been more helpful but that would not have enhanced their director's bonuses. Neither would their shareholders have got an increased dividend and since, courtesy of the Planning Committee, Tesco has a virtual monopoly of the grocery trade in the south of the city why should they care about Mrs Bradbury?

Had the incident occurred in a high street shop whose business depended upon their reputation the incident might have been dealt with differently but, of course, there are no more high street shops. It's called progress.
