UP to 200 BMX riders took part in the first race at a revamped South Cheshire track.

The Cheshire Ghost Riders BMX Club hosted the second stage of the North region's BMX Summer Series at Tipkinder Park in Crewe. And a clutch of local riders produced top-three finishes to the delight of Ghost Riders organiser Gavin Worrall.

Tipkinder has had a £38,000 investment funded by the former Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council and is now viewed as one of the best surfaces for BMXing in the UK.

"We've got riders from as far afield as Preston and Market Drayton coming to our club because of the standard of racing," said Worrall.

"It was the first race meeting we've held since the improvements and it went really well with some good performances from our riders."

Chris Worrall and Jack Critchlow were placed first and second in the 11-year boys race, Charlie Walker claimed a third spot in the 10-years boys, Aaron Brown was first in 13-years boys, while in the 16-plus elite race, there were top finishes for Warren Bancroft (second) and Levi Ashley (third).

Tipkinder's next big event is on August 1/2 with a race meeting in memory of the late Bob Field, who helped put Crewe Olympic rider Shanaze Reade on her route to glory in the sport.

Training nights at the track are Tuesday and Thursday (from 6pm) and Saturdays (from 2.30pm) and Gavin is always on the lookout for new members.
