Chill out with live and loud or classical and cool
In its fourth successive year, WestFest is becoming a regular fixture at Westwood College in Leek.
The event not only showcases talent at the college but also that of other musicians in the community.
This year will include bands and soloists from Churnet View Middle School, St Edward's Junior High School and also Leek High School.
Local DJ Nick Sheldon will, once again, headline at the musical extravaganza which will also be supported by Leek bands; The Elastics and The Gospel According To John.
The host of live entertainment will take place across two stages with bands performing on the 'Live and Loud' stage and folk and classical musicians and singers will perform on the 'Open Minds' acoustic stage.
Taking to the stage for the first time ever is new band 'Second Chance'.
The rock band is made up of 15-year-olds; James Mellor on vocals, Taylor Golding on lead guitar, Kris Hallam on bass and Tom Vaughan on drums.
The lads formed the band a month ago with the aim of performing at this Saturday's WestFest.
Second Chance's influences include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day and The Muse.
As well as performing a host of covers, the teenagers have also been penning some of their own songs. The band's dress code includes black with some fluorescent colours.
Vocalist James said: "We will probably be nervous before going on stage but I am sure we will enjoy the experience."
Guitarist Taylor said: "I'm looking forward to performing at WestFest and we hope we are entertaining for the audience. We won't just be playing music but also throwing in a few stage antics too."
As for future aspirations for the band, bass player Kris said: "We hope to hit the charts one day but for now it's all about working together to come up with songs of our own. So far we have two."
Rock and indie performer Jess Lucking will also be performing for the first time as a singer and guitarist. The 15-year-old said: "I am quite nervous about it but I'm looking forward to it."
Annie Moruzzi is no stranger to WestFest, having performed at last year's event. As a guitarist and singer, Annie said: "I do get nervous about performing in public, but once I'm up there on stage it's okay and I enjoy it."
Annie has enjoyed singing since she was a toddler and is currently taking – among others – music GCSE. She hopes to work in the music industry.
Vocalists Olivia Muir and Brogan Adams will be joined on stage by pianist Emma Claydon for two five-minute slots during WestFest.
The trio of friends played at last year's event, Emma said: "We perform a number of pop songs by the likes of Leona Lewis and Bryan Adams, but we often change the original tempo and key. We are looking forward to performing at WestFest again."
The ten-and-a-half hour event will include a climbing wall for the daring and refreshments will also be available.
Admission is by ticket-only priced at £5 for adults. Free admission for under 12 years if accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available from the college. For further information call the venue on 01538 370930.
