Canal houses back on track

PLANNERS will reconsider £61 million proposals to build a canalside community in Stoke-on-Trent today.

Plans for the 349-property estate were deferred by Stoke-on-Trent City Council's development control committee at a meeting on August 6.

Developer Bett Homes wants to build 249 apartments and 100 houses around a park on land to the south of the Cauldon Canal, between Eastwood Road and Botteslow Street.

It would be the centrepiece of Stoke-on-Trent's flagship City Waterside housing regeneration programme.

Plans for the development were tabled in December, but have been held up by problems securing funding for parts of it.

Members requested further information about the funding of a canal bridge the provision of a heritage feature including two bottle ovens on the site and arrangements for the future maintenance of the open space.
