Take batteries to council HQ

Wednesday, February 03, 2010, 09:20

A COUNCIL has set up a pilot collection point for batteries.

The service introduced by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council at its headquarters in Leek could be extended to offices in Biddulph and Cheadle.

The Moorlands House collection point was launched ahead of new regulations which came into force yesterday on recycling of batteries.

The regulations apply to all distributors or retailers selling more than one pack of four AA batteries a day or 32kg of portable batteries a year.

The rules say that anyone selling batteries in such quantities must now take them back from the customer free of charge when they have been used.
