WELL, I should have known better.

Once Miley Cyrus, pictured below, released See You Again in September this year, I actually believed she'd stepped up a level and had moved away from the cheesy records and had moved into making proper, decent pop. How wrong I was. She's back in Hannah Montana mode with her new single 7 Things, out on Monday.

It's just another Avril Lavigne-esque rant, which is not only massively inferior to her last song but also lists more than 7 Things! What do you think…?

You're vain (1), your games (2), you're insecure (3)

You love me, you like her (4)

You make me laugh, you make me cry

I don't know which side to buy (5)

Your friends they're jerks (6), When you act like them, just know it hurts (7)

I wanna be with the one I know

And the 7th thing I hate the most that you do, You make me love you (8)

Did she get so wound up hating this person that she lost count?!

Alesha Dixon – formerly of Mis-Teeq and last year's Strictly Come Dancing winner – has already had one shot at a solo career. Her 2006 song Lipstick, limped into the Top 20 and another song, Knockdown, didn't even break into the Top 40.

However, determined to have another go, she's releasing The Boy Does Nothing. Imagine her having a pop at some bone-idle bloke who never does the washing-up over the music from Mambo No. 5 and you've got it. Alesha's got a great voice, but I think this song will also fall short of the Top 10, despite a video that shows off her amazing figure and dancing and should help her shift a few copies.

Jason Donovan has covered some absolute classics for his new album, out a week on Monday, called Let It Be Me. To be fair to him, he's done a decent job of covering songs like Love Hurts, Love Letters and Be My Baby from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. Sadly though, rather than get one of those out first so people can get used to the idea that he's back and sounding quite good, he's gone full steam ahead this Monday, and released his own record called Dreamboats & Petticoats (featuring Hank Marvin on guitar) and I think it will put people off buying what could actually be quite a nice album for those who like the nostalgia, or even Jason himself.

He's tried to capture the dreamy feel from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, but it sounds like it should be the theme tune for a TV show or stage musical called Dreamboats & Petticoats rather than a proper record. That could certainly be a future venture, but there's always the danger someone would shorten it to Dreamcoats… and that could lead to all sorts of confusion.
