Two men were knocked down and killed on the M6.

The men were hit by a heavy goods vehicle on the northbound M6 between junctions 17 and 18.

Both carriageways were closed off, although the southbound carriageway has since reopened.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said M6 northbound carriageway remained closed at junction 17.

He said: “Drivers should if possible seek alternative routes and avoid the area around the motorway as traffic congestion is likely to be very heavy.

“The southbound carriageway has also been closed from junction 18.”

Update: The Highways Agency say there are delays of 30 minutes and expect the road to reopen by 8pm.

“It looks as though keyboard diarrhoea Penning is inventing other names to try and provoke argument. How sad and irrelevant can anyone be?”

“Sorry Mr penning.. I forgot about the lynch mob... I think I passed them on the way, they were all falling out with each other in butt lane. I blame sat navs, they all follow the same routes, but their owners expect a magical open road. Good old map reading or better still a local knowledge, but them folks in leek don't like strangers, it upsets the inbreeding. (how long will this post last?)”

“Two reasons I reckon gaz -first one is because the folk in Leek were afraid of too many passing through -albeit not the town centre.... And protested.

Or -the Law got in touch for same reason.

The other reason -could be that seeing that there was a lynch mob roaming about on the loose looking for me -they didn't want to be implicated.....”

“Not wishing to join any argument but... Why was Mr Pennings first post removed? I read it when I got home from work, I wanted to see what had caused the traffic chaos and checked this site. He said nothing to cause offence! It seams we both travelled on the same roads, he was right A34 awful, A50 just as bad etc... I had the advantage of a motorbike so I got through, it is strange how the moderator works, although for clarity of the thread the posts name and time of their post should remain even if the content is removed, as per other sites!”
