I held crown for our school's May Queen
MADAM, – What a pleasant surprise to see Jill Smith's photograph picturing former pupils (and me) on the Birkett and Roberts bakery trip.
I remember it well as school outings such as this were few and far between in those days; as was the gift of a loaf of bread.
I am enclosing another photograph of St Giles and St George's School (the old National).
It was taken on May 1, 1951, in the school playground with the Queen's Gardens in the background and featured the May Queen and her attendants. Left to right are: Linda?, Stella Downs, Pauline Cheney (May Queen), Beryl Cotton, Dilys Simpson (deceased) and I am at the front carrying the cushion with the crown.
It would be good to hear from any old school friends who were pupils at the National in the early 1950s.
