Perhaps I can 'forget' my tax
WE WATCHED with interest and embarrassment the three episodes of The Year The Town Hall Shrank on BBC4.
What an indictment of this once-great city.
There would be no need for cutbacks if the council had chased with some vigour the non-payers of council tax.
Of course they can't afford to pay what they owe after 10 years of non-collection.

So what does the council do? Write it off. We saw a debt collector call at the homes of these debtors only to be told that 'I forgot to pay and kept on forgetting'.
Well, that's all right then.
Owe nearly £10,000 and get it written off. Owe over £3,000, nice new car sitting on the drive, 'sorry can't pay'.
So I take it that this is a green light for all us mugs who do pay to stop paying and say that we forgot.
