PRINCESS Leia married serial killer Jason Voorhees in one of the most eye-catching weddings of the year.

The unlikely match-up took place at Hanley Register Office on Saturday, as the violent star of the slasher movie, Friday the 13th, said his vows to the Star Wars damsel – surrounded by a cast of heroes and villains also including Norse god and avenger Thor and dalmation-coat-craving Cruella de Vil.

The fancy dress wedding of Louise Conlon (Leia) and Simon Grayson (Jason), was arranged in just two weeks, after the couple decided to extend Louise's 40th birthday celebrations to a wedding.

Simon, aged 41, director of K8 Industrial Services, said: "We've been together nine-and-a-half years and we were originally going to get married a long time ago.

"We went on holiday to the Maldives and it was brilliant.

"We decided we would go back to the same place and get married.

"But the holiday got cancelled, and we never got to go back. Then we had our son, Alfie, who is nearly two-years-old, so we just put it on hold.

"Then at the beginning of this year we said we would get it sorted.

"It's Louise's 40th birthday on Halloween, and we have some friends coming up for a fancy dress party, so we decided we would get married.

"I went as Jason, I'm a big horror fan, and Louise was Princess Leia.

"I was going to go as a storm trooper originally, but all the costumes I found were a bit flimsy – apart from one which cost between £600 and £1,000 depending on what accessories you had with it."

The couple met at The Albion in Newcastle almost 10 years ago and had their first date at the Bulls Head, also in Newcastle.

After the wedding at the town hall, the couple partied with around 20 guests all dressed as famous faces back at their home in Langdale Road, Clayton.

Louise, company secretary of K8 Industrial Services, said: "I wanted to be Princess Leia because I thought the costume was like a white wedding design, but a bit different.

"Then at the night time, I got changed into a Bat Girl outfit.

"We had a job to find a costume for Alfie, but he was dressed as Thor.

"It was going to be fancy dress for my 40th birthday party.

"We only decided to get married two weeks before, so it was a bit of a rush trying to get everything organised."

Jo Smith, who has known Louise for 20 years, went to the wedding dressed as 101 Dalmations villain Cruella de Vil, while her husband Gary went as pop superstar Michael Jackson from his Smooth Criminal days.

Jo, aged 44, of Scothay Road, Silverdale, said: "Louise is a ball of fun, so I half expected something like this for her wedding.

"When she first said it was a fancy dress event I thought she just meant the night time party.

"I couldn't believe it when she said the whole day.

"I think it was a great idea, it was really different."
