HEALTH bosses in Staffordshire are warning flu-like illnesses could be on the increase with the cold weather forecast to continue – and have urged people it is not too late to have a flu jab.

While most elderly people have now had the injection, experts are worried too many under-65s with long term conditions, such as heart or breathing problems, and pregnant women, remain unprotected.

The mild weather before the cold spell means cases this year have been relatively low to date – but a surge is now expected similar to last winter.

People should contact their GP for the jab which takes around 10 days to kick in.
