AN EVENT aimed at keeping young motorists safe on Staffordshire's roads will take place this weekend.

Driving – The Road To Success will be staged at Moorside High School in Cellarhead Road, Cellarhead, on Sunday.

It has been organised by Werrington Locality Action Group (LAG), which includes Staffordshire Police, the Police Authority, Staffordshire County Council and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.

Among the organisations from attending the event to deliver safety messages to young motorists are representatives from the force's Road Crime Team, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Department of Transport.

There will also be several motor trade retailers together with personnel from the AA and the Institute of Advanced Motorists, which will be taking bookings for evaluation drives.

Representatives from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Leek Crime Prevention Panel, Community Speedwatch and the First Responders will also be supporting the event, which runs from 11am to 3pm.

A number of military and vintage vehicles are also expected.

John Arnold, chairman of Werrington LAG, said: "This is set to be an exciting event and the first of its kind to be held at Moorside High School.

"We have secured attendance on the day from several top organisations all working hard to promote vehicle safety, particularly among young motorists.

"The representatives from these groups will give demonstrations and provide advice to up-and-coming road users, new drivers and their families.

"Road safety is a top priority for Staffordshire Police and together with our partners we are working hard to drive down the number of serious and fatal road traffic collisions on the county's roads.

"By attending this event, new motorists can pick up lots of good advice about how to stay safe while enjoying driving."

Staffordshire Police is involved in a number of initiatives to help keep motorists safe on the roads, including Crash Course and Bike Safe.

Any groups wishing to take part in the event still have time to sign up. For more details call Mr Arnold on 01538 360547.
