CHILDREN in Checkley have used magic beans to help learn foreign languages.

Hutchinson Memorial School held a Jack and the Beanstalk day yesterday when they learnt the classic fairytale in French, German, Spanish and sign language.

As part of the school's creative curriculum, pupils played a variety of games, learnt songs and experienced languages of which they have no prior knowledge.

School spokesman Karen Roche said: "The children already speak French and enjoyed investigating other languages.

"The whole day was about being immersed in all things foreign, including the school lunch."
