A COLLEGE lecturer has raised more than £600 for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice after taking part in a sponsored run to remember her friend.

Louise Stalder, who lectures at Newcastle College, took part in the Hanley Building Society Potters 'Arf marathon to raise funds for the hospice that treated fellow lecturer Marianne Howe before she died of cancer two years ago.

Louise, aged 31, said: "It was a fantastic event to be part of. There were a lot of people running for good causes and this was very inspirational.

"I've ran races before and I have to say that this was the best crowd. The support from Stoke-on-Trent was really something else."

The mother-of-two, from Stone, was grateful to everyone who sponsored her.

She added: "Everyone at the college knew Marianne and they've all been really supportive.

"Marianne's family have been very generous."
