Call for double yellow lines to stop motorists
COMMUNITY leaders have called for double yellow lines to be painted on a busy main road to stop motorists obstructing fire engines.
Cheadle town councillors are to ask the county council to impose restrictions in Ashbourne Road near to the fire station and Asda supermarket.
The proposal put forward by Councillor Neil Plant won the support of fellow town councillors.
He said: "Parked cars are causing a problem for cars leaving Asda, delivery vehicles and more importantly the fire service, who need 24-hour access.

"I understand people need access to the post office and to the chemist, but we need to impose some form of parking restrictions."
Councillor Ron Locker added: "It is a very busy junction and there is no excuse for parking there. There are facilities nearby."
But Councillor Ray Wood said the council should talk to residents before restrictions were imposed.
He said: "I would not like to see yellow lines imposed to the detriment of residents who live there.
"We first need to talk to the people who live there."
