Rather,I would like to see some money being put into developing an airport-to-airport light rail system (using existing Manchester Airport-Crewe-Stoke-Derby lines) with a new spur to run from Stoke-Derby line to East Midlands Airport and a short spur near Long Eaton adding to take trains from EMA to Derby city station - easily achieved using existing tracks. Frequency could be increased along this line.
More research should be done to look at Maglev passenger rail (several times faster than HS2 ) and whether these (usually elevated tracks) could be mounted - mainly - over existing motorways (maybe over one of the hard shoulders).”
