“Gypsysting...the whip will be banned eventually but it is a long process to get anything done in any sport that has lasted 100 years or more. I'm a racing fan and no true fan likes to see a horse being beaten but whips these days are cushioned and wrapped in velvet. A far cry from just 20 years ago when they were leather and more like the whip we imagine. Race horses are treated better than humans, they have all mod cons in their living accomodation and the facilities available to then when they are injured are as good as most top hospitals if not better. Racing is here to stay but it will change...just very slowly.”

“Wikipedia is claiming that Animal Aid was once directed by Robin Webb - a known terrorist and member of the ALF, are Animal Aid going to sue Wikipedia and the likes of the Channel 4 who have also repoerted on this fact or are they going to admit that this was indeed the case?
Excercise caution around animal rights groups as no matter how "peacefull" they claim to be someone in that group is always gathering names and adresses and making them available to more violent organisations - as was made quite clear in the Channel 4 documentary about the un-lovely Mr Webb.” -

Animal Aid has long campaigned against the use of the whip in horse racing. This reform is long overdue. Many jockeys repeatedly misuse the whip because, even when they are found guilty of misconduct, they still keep their winnings. The winning horse in this year’s Grand National, Ballabriggs, was severely beaten in the final stages of the race, which left him so exhausted and dehydrated that he required oxygen. The jockey, Jason Maguire, has a record of beating horses but has, again, kept his winnings.
Towcester racecourse has announced it wishes to ban jockeys from beating horses with the whip, and will disqualify those who do so. Animal Aid has called on all of Britain’s racecourses to follow Towcester’s example.
