OLDER people and their carers are to benefit from a £1 million investment in specialist dementia care services.

Cheshire East Council's cabinet has approved the funding for improvements to Lincoln House Community Support Centre in Crewe.

The centre, recently rated "excellent" by Government performance assessors, will benefit from a new wing, and the modernisation of an existing wing and former day care facilities.

This will create 12 assessment and respite units with en suite facilities, as well as communal areas and a day care facility for 12 people.

Once work is completed the day care services currently provided from Santune House Community Support Centre in Shavington will transfer to Lincoln House.

Councillor Roland Domleo, portfolio holder for adult services, said: "The services provided by our community support centres are vital in helping people to stay in their own homes for as long as they are able to."
